We recently had year 11 student, Thomas, join the Innovation Visual team for a few days, to gain an insight into digital marketing and the working world. Thomas spent time shadowing our digital marketing experts and learnt about all things SEO, PPC and Content Marketing. Here’s a bit more about his experience at Innovation Visual in his words.
My Digital Marketing Work Experience
Hi, my name is Thomas, and I am currently a year 11 student in Maldon. I have been focused on trying to look far into the future and locating what I want to do and what industry I want to enter when I’m older. I’ve always found business and marketing in particular very interesting and, as a result see it as a possible route for the future.
During October half-term 2021, I was lucky enough to work and learn at Innovation Visual. During my short time there, I learnt and consumed a lot of information about digital marketing. I listened in to multiple business meetings, which gave me a sense of what agency life is really like and learned how to interact professionally with people and sell services. The experience gained at Innovation Visual has enhanced my vision of what digital marketing is like and how it can be used in business. This has really changed my views and now I can really see myself doing something similar in the future.
Learning About Search Engine Optimisation
On my first day the team taught me about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and showed me how, if a business isn’t high enough in search engine ranking, it can fail to be viewed by possible customers. The team also explained how keywords are important to push your business's site to the top of search engine results.
I also spent time 1 to 1 with some members of the team. Each person helped and gave me information on what their role is in the business. This helped me understand their jobs and gave me a perspective from an employee instead of a student.

I’d like to thank the whole Innovation Visual team for this experience as it has given me an insight into what digital marketing is all about. The team were so generous and encouraging which removed all sense of nerves. To conclude, the experience was brilliant and showed me how business works; while also letting me develop an idea of what an agency workplace is like, as I had never been in an environment like that before.
